The Islands

Last weekend I had a great time in Nova Scotia on a friend's islands.
It was a long trip: 12+ hour drive to Saint John in New Brunswick, followed by a 3h ferry accross. The islands were 1/2h further inland in the vast Nova Scotian wilderness. The roadtrip was fun, thru Maine and some other of these United States... We almost hit a mother moose and her calf in Maine. All parties were shaken, but none hurt. Extra caution was exercised thereafter :)

The island resort has no name yet. This was an inaugural party weekend, to 'christen' the (3) islands, but we didn't quite get to that part yet. I suggest Frog Island, for there was an abundance of cute lil' fingernail-size brown froggies scurrying about :)

L-R: The Food Preparation Facility; the kitchen with heavy-duty cast-iron utensils and a flat-top stone counter; the sleeping quarters; the state-of-the-Art toilet.
We were the pioneers on the island, whacking our way in & clearing all above mentioned spaces before settling in... Food (NS salmon, scallops, etc etc) was good, fresh, and plentiful. Followed by some happy/tired camp-fire BS ;)

Good time was had by all, and I'm looking forward to the next time (just have to keep an eye on those Maine moose! =)

Dawgdayz in Zoo York

Dustbowl, Central Park.

Add dust & sweat, mix. Fortunately our post-game bar lets us in even looking like this :) On days like this, I have to clean my bathtub after a soak-in...

Dirt trackin'

Some decent off-road biking in Forest Park, near where I used to live in Kew Gardens. They've got some horse trails there, and hiking/biking trails like this. Next time I'll have to wear long-sleeve shirt: my arms were itching like crazy after a while, what with all the thorns and leaves, poison ivy, bugs & bats etc whacking me in this fairly dense forest >;) A swim woulda been nice after this, but unfortunately decent beaches are far & between in this city.
Later I'm gonna head up to the Catskills or something for some real downhill/switchback action! :D
